T-Shirts

We're getting new t-shirts! Be sure to stop by our FaceBook page to see the design and select a shirt size and color (sapphire blue or black).

There were even more new members this week which is great! We always love to have new people stop in whether it be as a straight ally, LGBTQ youth, or just someone who is stopping in to see what we're all about.

October is LGBT History Month and so I've decided to attach a link so everyone can brush up on some "queer" history. This webiste is a great place to read about members of the LGBTQ community past and present as well as many of the allies who have supported the community throughout the years. Be sure to take a look!

Yay!! First Meeting!

Hey everyone! Today is our first meeting and I'm very excited to see lots of new faces with tons of enthusiasm. We've got a lot on our agenda today. Today we are discussing:

A potential trip to Six Flags New England on September 22, 2012 for Out in the Park!. If you are interested please email Ms Davis a LDavisIHS@gmail.com
September is also Suicide Prevention Month and the Trevor Project is conducting a day of awareness. On the Trevor
Project Day (September 27^th), we ask that you post sticky notes with life-saving, life-affirming messages where friends, peers, and even strangers can find them to help support suicide prevention.
As a group we hope to organize an event for The Trevor Project Day on September 27^th! We will be making posters with life-affirming messages, posting them around the school in an attempt to encourage everyone to participate and to support others. I hope everyone had a great summer! I'm excited to be back at school and I am looking forward to seeing all of our "old" members and hopefully some bright new faces. In years past we have had some scheduling conflicts and so I would like to begin the year by announcing that meetings are going to be held on Wednesday afternoons in room B226 from
2:30-3:30. Our first meeting will be on Wednesday September 5th, there will be refreshments and a some fun activities to get to know some of our newer members. I look forward to seeing you all then!

IHS Ally Week

So far Ally Week has been GREAT!! The bake sale was extended after the first day because of such high demand, thanks for everyone who supported us by buying baked goods at lunch! The line has been out the door for the NoH8 campaign and Tara Mehalba and Meggi Jalapeño have been doing a great job getting the faces painted and portraits taken in a timely fashion. I saw lots of purple on Tuesday for Trans-Remembrance Day and today we had a small but enthusiastic turnout for "If These Walls Could Talk 2." Everyone seemed to enjoy the movie and only two slices of pizza remained at the end! Tomorrow we hope to get everyone to sign the Ally Pledges during lunch and we are also looking for volunteers to join us during Friday's Day of Silence.

Welcome back!

School is back in session and the GSA has hit the ground running! Our kick-off meeting had 22 fantastic people. There were a lot of new people with great ideas and super energy which makes me think this year is going to be great.
During our first meeting we held elections for group officers. Following some very close ballots, the results were as follows:

Tara Mehalba - President
John Gayton - Vice President
Kelly Phelan - Secretary
Henry Freeman - Treasurer
Shannon Colter - Official Crowd Control

Congratulations to everyone!

We are currently working on a logo for the group so that we can order t-shirts and stickers! If you any logo ideas we would be glad to have you come share them at our next meeting this upcoming Tuesday. Our bulletin board is currently under construction but will soon be filled with lots of great information and upcoming events so be sure to check it out.

That's about it for now. Please be sure to stop by one of our meetings to have some food and meet some new friends!

Today's movie viewing/end of the year party was a great success! We had 20+ people, a few new faces, and lots of great food! Thank you to all of you who came, we look forward to seeing the new faces at future meetings.

This upcoming wednesday during our next meeting we will begin to discuss our plans for next year and sketch out a calendar of events. Please stop by with any ideas you may have to make next year another great year!!!

Boston Pride

The Boston Pride parade will be held on June 11, 2011!! Members of the group will be going and we would like to see some familiar Ipswich faces in the crowd too!!
